The achievement of Economic and Monetary Union is the most important stage since the signature of the Treaty of Rome. It is the culmination of 40 years of work to turn compartmentalised national markets into a huge, dynamic and integrated market.
Also, for the first rime, Europeans are learning about the joint exercise of one of the great attributes of sovereignty. that will provide valuable experience for the development of an "ever closer union" between the Member States.
